All great companies grow and change. Today, we announce that we will be saying farewell to long time partner Rodney Jackson. Rodney is retiring and moving on to explore personal pursuits in the areas of real estate development and business. He will also be picking up groceries and helping out wife and remaining HBC partner Karen Jackson. Rodney has made quite an impact on HBC and our clients and he will be very missed. Rodney will remain with the firm through April 15, 2022 working with his clients to ensure a smooth transition and continuity of the excellent service our clients have come to expect at HBC.
We would also like to announce a very exciting addition to our partner team, Michael Pennington. Michael joined the firm in July 2017 after five years of employment with a retail grocery chain as Manager of Accounting in Financial Reports and Plans. Prior to that, he was employed at a large auditing firm in Roanoke, VA, concentrating in public coal companies and governmental and nonprofit audits. Michael is a 2010 graduate of Emory & Henry College where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting and a Bachelor of Arts in Economics. He is a 2011 graduate of Virginia Tech with a Master of Accounting and Information Systems. He is licensed to practice in the Commonwealth of Virginia obtaining his Certified Public Accountant license in 2012. He is a member of the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA) and the Virginia Society of Certified Public Accountants (VSCPA).

Michael specializes in non-profit and governmental auditing and consulting. He also has a focus in construction, insurance, and corporate and individual tax preparation. Hobbies include boating on South Holston Lake, spending time in the Florida gulf coast, and Virginia Tech Football. Michael grew up in Marion, Virginia and now resides in Abingdon with his wife Amanda and their Bernedoodle, Moose.
