What began as a small local accounting firm has grown and changed over the years to become HBC CPAs, one of the premier accounting firms for individuals, businesses, nonprofits and governmental entities in the Southwest Virginia region and beyond. We are very proud of our growth and success and attribute much of it to the solid foundation laid by our founder Thomas M. Hicok, CPA, CVA and his fellow partners.

Tom founded the firm in 1983, after graduating from Milligan College with a major in accounting and minor in psychology and working at a local accounting firm for several years. His expertise in forensic accounting, asset valuation, tax consulting, and litigation work has been a tremendous asset to our clients and our firm. He established strong community relationships as well as relationships far and wide in the accounting industry.

Recently, after over 50 years of service to our profession, Tom announced his retirement as a partner in HBC CPAs effective December 31, 2023. We are pleased that he will continue to maintain some client relationships and consult with our firm regularly so you may still see him in the office throughout the year. Tom’s desire to step away from the administrative aspects of partnership is understood and well-deserved and allows him the pleasures of more time for travel and family.

We will be transitioning Tom’s clients and responsibilities to our other highly accomplished partners and accountants and will contact you personally to make that transition.

Please feel free to contact us with questions or to send Tom a congratulatory note on this exciting phase of life.
